Initially the braces may feel a little bulkier than your natural teeth. This is normal. As you become accustomed to your braces and tooth alignment improves, this sensation will soon disappear and cease to be a concern. Although the braces are manufactured to be smooth it can take a day or two to become accustomed to them. You may find it helpful to use a small piece of wax around the bracket that is causing any irritation. You may notice slight discomfort beginning a few hours after your braces are placed. Some teeth, usually the front teeth, may be tender and sensitive to pressure. Exactly when this sensation ceases is different for each patient. You may wish to take non-prescription pain medication such as Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin). Before leaving the office follow these simple steps listed below. This routine will help to minimize discomfort related to irritation from the braces and ensure an optimal response to treatment.
