About Orthodontics

Why is Orthodontics Important?

One of the main reasons to seek Orthodontic treatment is a beautiful smile. A beautiful smile can improve a person’s image and in turn boost self-confidence. Behind a beautiful smile is facial balance and harmony with teeth that fit correctly for proper function. Our goal at Lone Star Pediatric Dental And Braces is to help you achieve a beautiful smile by providing the highest quality Orthodontic Treatment in the most comfortable and efficient manner.

How Orthodontic Treatment Works?

Modern Orthodontic appliances are made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be bonded to the teeth such as with Metal or Clear braces or they may be removable such as with Invisalign. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, Orthodontic appliances move teeth to a corrected position. In conjunction, auxiliary appliances such as expanders and extra-oral devices can help achieve facial balance and harmony. Once teeth are in their corrected positions, custom retainers are used to help maintain the results to last a lifetime.

Duration of Treatment

Treatment time typically ranges from 12 to 36 months, depending on the severity of the problem and the remaining growth of the patient. Each patient will respond differently to orthodontic treatment which is also a factor in treatment time. Patient compliance and cooperation during treatment is the most important factor in achieving the most efficient treatment. Phase I or early treatment procedures may take as few as six months and can help decrease time needed to complete treatment in Phase 2.
